VGS Members Presentations Night
About this event
Speakers: 3 VGS Members
The return of an annual tradition where VGS members share their family and research stories with us. This year we have 3 member presentations for you:
Joanne Barnard (VGS Ambassador) - Searching for Grandma's Grandpa
Joanne would like to give an update on solving the mystery of who her grandmother’s paternal grandparents were. A few years ago at Members’ night, she spoke about having found the grandmother but that led to a dead end as she was “between husbands” at the relevant time. Using a combination of DNA and regular genealogy research has enabled Joanne to go some distance to finding the grandfather.
Mike Woodcock UE - The United Empire Loyal-List for Vancouver Island
After defining the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada (UELAC), Mike will explain how and why he have developed a website database of over 550 Vancouver Island descendants of United Empire Loyalists.
Lois Chamberlain Thompson (VGS Communications) -
James “Dunty the Ghost” Porteous
This is an updated version of her presentation, now including a lawsuit (sort of) and DNA.
This meeting is IN PERSON at a NEW LOCATION in the Royal Oak area. Elk Lake Inn & Suites - Holiday Inn, 4670 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria, BC, Canada (previously a Howard Johnston hotel). Access to the meeting room is through the Lakes Restaurant front door.
