Victoria Genealogical Society (VGS) is committed to offering you the most for your membership. This unique opportunity is the first, hopefully, in a series of events that allow us to reunite in a safe environment while allowing us to reconnect. You are invited to bring along a partner or friend or two but we ask that everyone registers for this event.
Lori Treloar has offered VGS members a special opportunity to learn about the Kinsol Trestle on location at the trestle itself! Even if you have visited the Kinsol Trestle in the past, this is an opportunity to learn the fascinating history of this spectacular structure.
The tour starts at 10:30 am. Lori will walk with us to the trestle while describing the history and the restoration of the trestle. After her presentation, we will walk back then drive to the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is optional but a large private dining room has been reserved for our exclusive use.
To make your day complete, a list of other options available in the area will be available, along with maps and a luncheon menu.
Once you have registered, please email the coordinator for this event, Lois Thompson, at the VGS Correspondent through our Contact Us page. Please indicate the number of people having lunch (if applicable). Lois will send you the menu, maps and a list of things to do in the area. If you alter the number attending or change your plans, please advise Lois as soon as possible.
Travel note:You will be required to travel by your own vehicle. The travel time is approximately 50 minutes from the VGS Genealogical Research and Learning Centre. You must be able to comfortably walk 2 kilometers along a well-groomed flat trail.
Weather note: As West Coasters, we are not afraid of a little rain. However, if we are faced with a downpour, the tour will be rescheduled.
Trestle note: Afraid of heights? The trestle is wide and incredibly sturdy. The first time crossing, Lois reports she stayed in the centre and felt safe and comfortable.
Donations: All donations will greatly appreciated by both Shawnigan Lake Historical Society and Victoria Genealogical Society.
A hat will be passed for donations to the Shawnigan Lake Historical Society and will go towards the completion of their new museum. If you wish to make a donation to VGS and you want a tax receipt, please donate on the VGS website.
