In 1886, the last spike of the E&N railway was driven at Mile 25 - Cliffside, Shawnigan Lake. Six months later, the first hotel opened on the waterfront in a choice spot along the rail line. It didn’t take long for Shawnigan Lake to become the destination for well-to-do merrymakers from Victoria.
Lori Treloar is the Executive Director for the Shawnigan Lake Museum, and will share with us her excellent knowledge of Shawnigan Lake‘s history.
The Netherlands SIG welcomes all members who are researching their Dutch family history in the Netherlands.

In honour of British Home Children (BHC) Day, there will be displays, BHC look up sessions and talks about Canada‘s historical British Home Children program by our very own Lois Chamberlain Thompson, Director of the Victoria Genealogical Society (VGS). Let VGS help you find your BHC ancestor! There will be a draw for a VGS workshop of your choice.
Drop in at the Shawnigan Lake Museum, entrance by donation.
No registration is required for this collaborative event.
