The VGS is proud to offer annual memberships to suit a variety of needs and interests. Memberships are effective from June 1 through May 31 of the following year.

  • Single Membership ($60): An annual membership for a person over the age of 25
  • Family Membership ($85): Two or more annual memberships for people living at the same address
  • DNA Single Membership ($160) includes:
    • One Single Membership
    • One Ancestry DNA testing kit
    • One workshop to show you how to submit your Ancestry DNA kit
    • One workshop to show you how to use your DNA kit’s results at the Ancestry website
    • Available until July 1, 2021. This offer is now closed until next year.
  • DNA Family Membership ($185) includes:
    • A Family Membership
    • One Ancestry DNA testing kit
    • One workshop to show you how to submit your Ancestry DNA kit
    • One workshop to show you how to use your DNA kit’s results at the Ancestry website
    • These DNA workshops are open to all people registered in your family membership
    • Available until July 1, 2021. This offer is now closed until next year.
  • Youth Membership ($30): One annual membership for a person who is 25 or younger

  • Free parking at our Learning Centre and for our monthly Speaker Series events.
  • Free access to our Special Interest Groups (SIGS) where members with similar interests participate in small meetings focused on engaging topics.
  • Voting rights at the VGS Annual General Meeting.
  • Access to our VGS Journal, available in PDF format. Members are encouraged to submit stories about their family history, research and their favourite research methods to the VGS Journal.
  • Free posting of surnames in our Members Surname Interest Index on this website - connect with others researching the same surnames.
  • Many opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the VGS. VGS members are encouraged to participate in ongoing VGS projects, programs, and services. The VGS is looking for people who are interested in supporting, growing and helping the society evolve with the times. Do you love to research? Can you manage projects? Do you like to answer phones? Are you interested in transcribing historical documents or indexing them? Do you like to raise money or promote activities? Consider volunteering!
